An old practice

Why nine days

The novena recalls the nine days the Apostles spent in prayer with Our Lady between the Ascension and Pentecost. Over the centuries the Church has blessed a great many of them and enriched several with indulgences.

The app gives the novenas as the tradition handed them down — the prayer of each day and the intention — sourced like every text it holds. Nothing is added to make them longer, nothing taken away to make them easier.
