The Douay-Rheims Bible and the Latin Vulgate online
The Douay-Rheims is the English Catholic Bible, translated from the Latin by exiles at Rheims and Douai; the Vulgate is the Latin Bible the Council of Trent declared authentic, here in its Clementine edition of 1592. Both are given side by side, verse by verse, in all seventy-three books — the deuterocanonical books included. More on the Douay-Rheims Bible and on the Latin Vulgate.

The Douay-Rheims, in short
The Douay-Rheims is the classic English Catholic Bible. It was made from the Latin Vulgate by English Catholics in exile: the New Testament was printed at Rheims in 1582, the Old Testament at Douai in 1609 and 1610. For generations it was the wording in which English-speaking Catholics heard and prayed the Scriptures.
It keeps the names and the order of the Vulgate. The four books of Kings are what most modern Bibles call 1–2 Samuel and 1–2 Kings; Paralipomenon is Chronicles; Osee is Hosea; the Apocalypse is Revelation. The modern name is given beside the old one wherever they differ.
The psalms keep the numbering of the Vulgate, which the Douay-Rheims follows: Psalm 22 here — "The Lord ruleth me" — is Psalm 23 in Bibles numbered from the Hebrew. It is also the numbering of the Breviary and the Missal, so a psalm read here is found under the same number in the liturgy.
